Project Information

Flanagan Lake (formerly known as Dam Site – 15A) is the largest lake in the Plan. Opened in 2018, this lake provides a popular recreation opportunity in northwest Omaha and is booming with aquatic life. The dual lane boat ramp and two kayak launches (one ADA accessible) provide public access to the 220 acres of water. There are ten breakwater structures that serve as both shoreline protection and angler access points. More than 5 miles of trail in a full loop around the lake make this a prime location for walkers, runners, and cyclists. Two day use facilities are located within the recreation area, which include parking, restroom facilities, picnic shelters, and a playground! Fishing is very popular at this lake, as the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission contributed funds to construct fish habitat structures below water and stock Flanagan with bluegill, crappie, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and northern pike.

Constructed on North Branch West Papillion Creek, the dam controls more than 7,000 acres of drainage area. This structure reduces flood risk through west Omaha all the way to Papillion.
